Mission Statement

WELCOME: Welcome to Crossroads Neighborhood Church: Wonders of Learning Preschool.  We are proud of the quality Christian education we provide for the children and families in our community.  Families are an essential component to providing an early foundation for learning.  Therefore, if you have any questions please ask our highly capable teachers, they are happy to talk to you about the research behind the teaching strategies we use and how children learn best.  Thank you for choosing Wonders of Learning Preschool for your child's preschool experience.

OUR CHURCH:  If you do not already have a home church, you will be welcome at Crossroads.  For more information go to www.crossroadscma.com

OUR PURPOSE: is to lead children and families in our community to Christ by offering a Biblically-based and intellectually challenging preschool environment that develops children's interests and abilities so that they might reach their God given potential.

OUR VOLUNTEER ADVISORY BOARD: Members are: the Chairperson, Finance Administrator, a Governing Board Representative, the Director of Children's Ministries, a community Representative, a Parent Advocate Member, Preschool Parent volunteer(s)and the Preschool Coordinator.  The board meets on the last Monday of each month (with the exception of December) at 5:30 pm in room 201 and anyone is welcome to attend.  We are a tax-exempt organization under the ministry of the church.  Therefore, your donations and contributions are tax deductible.

OUR NAME: Crossroads Neighborhood Church: Wonders of Learning is adapted from Psalm 139:5 & 6 and reflects our curriculum philosophy of surrounding children with accelerated learning experiences that match their quest for meaningful knowledge.

OUR TEACHERS: are fully accredited and have extensive early childhood Christian education and experience.  They are passionate in their quest for knowledge, desire and interest in teaching young children.  The teachers are active participants in the early childhood community of the Central Kitsap and Bremerton School Districts.

OUR CURRICULUM: is built on the Bible and theoretical principles and research on child development and learning.  We know that "Multiple complex and concrete experiences are essential for meaningful learning and teaching." (Making Connection, Teaching and the Human Brain, by Remnate Nummela Caine, Geoffrey Caine.)  Therefore, we go beyond surface knowledge and help children learn to create meanings, integrate sensory experiences, make connections, and solve problems, all within the context of Christian education.  We work on academic, communication, social, fine and gross motor and cognitive skills.

LANGUAGE AND LITERACY: Wonders of Learning Preschool provides the necessary foundation skills that children need to learn how to read.  Our preschool is committed to building close links between current research and practice in early childhood.  Young children thrive when they acquire the beginning knowledge and skills of readers and writers.  Research has consistently shown that knowledge of letters, sound, and developing language skills form the foundation for successful reading. (Susan Neuman, Asst. Secretary of Elementary and Secondary Education).

Preschool builds the foundation for life long literacy learning.  Our curriculum provides numerous opportunities and direct instruction in literacy, including awareness of sounds, sound and symbol relationships, rhymes, understanding that print carries meaning, recognizing letters and words, and vocabulary development.  Wonders of Learning Preschool is a literacy-enriched environment, a fun and dynamic learning experience for both children and teachers!

CLASSES/SESSIONS: We keep our class sizes small to ensure one to one and small group instruction.  Because the teachers are involved in class preparation and clean up, they cannot be available to supervise children before or after class hours.  We ask that you please pick up your child on time.

AM CLASSES:  Two, three, and five days: runs from 9:00AM-12:00PM

PM CLASSES:  Four day runs from 12:30PM-3:00PM

TUITION: Our goal at Wonders of Learning is to offer affordable Christian preschool to families in our Community.  Our curriculum is financially planned on an annual basis.  If your family has an unforeseen change that requires your child to withdraw, please give us as much notice as possible.

Tuition is due by the 5th of the month.  A $20.00 late fee will be charged after the 15th.  Special arrangements may be made to avoid late charges in times of financial hardship, but only if the office is notified prior to the 5th of the month.  A simple explanation and the proposed payment date will be required in writing.

The tuition is due the same day every month.  The dollar amount is based on the total number of school days in the year divided by the number of the months in session.  All school breaks and holidays have been accounted for.  There is no tuition payment for the month of June.

DISCIPLINE POLICY: We realize that all young children are learning how to follow directions, make good choices, respond to conflict appropriately and problem solve in a variety of situations.  Our goal is to assist your child in developing these skills.  We accomplish this with a variety of nurturing and positive strategies depending on the unique needs of your child and the activity/situation.  The "Early Learning and Development Benchmarks" help teachers to understand and create a proactive approach to discipline.

Spanking or corporal punishment is never used.  When dealing with continued inappropriate behavior, it is sometimes necessary to remove a child from the activity, or the area, in order to focus the child on what is required.  If a child is removed, it will be for a brief supervised period of time and the teachers will assist the child with a smooth reentry into the group as soon as he or she has calmed down.  If, after several agreed upon interventions, we are not able to meet the need of your child; we will work with you to explore other possible resources.  This may include withdrawal from the preschool or working with other services that you may choose to be involved.

ABSENCES: Please notify the preschool office if your child will be absent from class.

SIGN IN AND OUT: Any person other than the parent must be authorized to pick up your child.  Completed authorization forms must be filed at the school office.  All visitors must check in at the preschool office.

SNACKS: To extend learning experiences for your child, we give each family a monthly snack schedule so that you and your child may provide a nutritious snack for the class.

CLOTHING: Children love to, and must be actively involved in the daily activities to learn.  This will require appropriate play clothing for both their inside and outside activities.  Remember that belts and snaps are difficult for young fingers to manage.  We encourage parents to provide a spare set of clothing in your child's backpack in case of accidents.

FIELD TRIPS: Families will need to provide transportation for the class field trips.  The preschool insurance policy does not allow our staff to transport children.  Please refer to the registration packet for the field trip release forms.

HEALTH: Children who have a communicable illness (i.e. fever, diarrhea, vomiting, runny nose, eye infection, rash, excessive cough etc.) or are not feeling well, should not come to school.  If you have any questions regarding whether or not to send your child, please consult your child's physician.  Please let us know if your child has chicken pox, measles, lice or any other contagious illness so that we may take the necessary precautions to eliminate further spreading.  Each family is required to fill out necessary health information that includes emergency contact and all medical needs.

WINTER WEATHER: If CKSD (Central Kitsap School District) is closed, both the AM and PM classes will be cancelled.  If CKSD has a delayed start; AM classes will be cancelled; PM classes will begin on time.  If we are closed all day due to inclement weather we will follow the recommendations of the CKSD as our schedule permits.  If needed, parents will receive a make up day schedule.  Parents are encouraged to make individual decisions regarding their children's school attendance during inclement weather.
